Abbasi began his acting career in 1997 with Titli, a telefilm by Yasir Akhtar, before getting recognition for his comic role in the PTV drama Kashish. In 1999, turning director the same year with the thriller Karoron ka Aadmi. Abbasi introduced the concept of webseries in Pakistan with his 2007 release #6dapak, which also won international awards. In 2022, he starred in the drama Bakhtawar. In 2023, he played the role of alleged Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav, in the movie Dhai Chaal.
