Bae Joo-hyun, better known by her stage name Irene (Korean: 아이린), is a South Korean singer and actress, best known as the leader of the South Korean girl group Red Velvet and its sub-unit Red Velvet – Irene & Seulgi.
Irene was born Bae Joo-hyun on March 29, 1991, in Daegu, South Korea. She grew up in Buk-gu. Her family consists of her parents and a younger sister. She attended Haknam High School in Daegu.
